Every week, the Palestine Film Platform (PFP) is making a film by a Palestinian filmmaker available to stream for free. Collaborating with filmmakers and cultural institutions both in Palestine and the diaspora, the platform has shown 10 feature films, as well as a selection of 6 short films. The PFP is an initiative of the Palestine Film Institute, the national body aimed at preserving, funding, and promoting Palestinian cinema.

This week’s selection is ‘5 Minutes from Home,’ a documentary by Nahed Awwad that sees the filmmaker uncover the history of the Jerusalem Airport. Lying on the road between Jerusalem and Ramallah, the airport—now besieged behind barbed wire—allows Awwad to see both past and present, and how “today’s Palestinian reality is marked by forgetfulness.”

Past selections have included Hany Abu-Assad’s Oscar-nominated ‘Omar,’ Cannes Critics Prize winner ‘Amreeka,’ directed by Cherien Dabis and starring Hiam Abbass and Alia Shawkat, and ‘The Tale of the Three Jewels,’ the first feature film ever produced entirely in Gaza.

The platform is also taking submissions from Palestinian filmmakers who want to show their work. Stay tuned to their website or Facebook group to learn more about future selections.
