Netflix just announced that iconic Tunisian actress Hend Sabry is getting her own series, described as a heartwarming dramedy, in which she will serve as both the star and executive producer through her company, Salam Production.

“I am excited to work on a female-focused show with Netflix,” Hend Sabry said. “I am also thrilled about my first experience as an executive producer and how, with Netflix, we can create content that features stories from the Arab world, to be seen by the world.”

With a 25-year-long career and as many awards to her name, Sabry has proved herself a force of Arab cinema. From Egyptian blockbusters to Tunisian gems, Sabry has played outstanding and empowering female roles to regional and international acclaim. Most recently, she became the first Arab woman to win the prestigious Starlight Cinema Award at this year’s edition of the Venice International Film Festival, where she was also the first Arab woman to serve as a juror.
